On November 18, 2020, Saskia Bricmont (Greens/EFA) and the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ) will be organising an online webinar titled ‘Counter-Terrorism & Human Rights: the way forward? Applying Counter-terrorism measures based on EU Directive 2017/541 in line with human rights standards’.
During the event, current challenges for human rights linked to the current EU counter-terrorism legislation and policies, including the 2017 EU Counter-terrorism Directive, will be discussed. The ICJ will be launching its Guidance for judges, prosecutors and lawyers on the application of the Directive in line with international Human Rights standards.
Following the presentation of the report, the first panel will be composed of practitioners commenting on the recommendations and best practices. The second panel will be composed of EU institutions representatives discussing how those recommendations could integrate in their work on related topics.
Speakers will include legal practitioners, representatives from EU institutions and civil society.
